Welcome to the Scottish National Chest Wall Service

The Scottish National Chest Wall Service aims to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary service to all children and adolescents in Scotland with anterior chest wall deformities to correct the deformity and improve function and wellbeing.

The Scottish Chest Wall Service is located at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The service accepts referral of a child or adolescent with an anterior chest wall deformity up to the age of 16.  A range of anterior chest wall deformities can occur. The majority of presentations fall into the categories of Pectus Carinatum or Pectus Excavatum.

What is Pectus Carinatum?

Pectus carinatum (pigeon chest) is a condition where the front of the chest is prominent. This is caused by abnormally shaped ribs.

What is Pectus Excavatum?

Pectus excavatum (funnel chest) is a condition where the front of the chest is sunken. This is caused by abnormally shaped ribs.
