Before your surgery

Before your surgery you will be required to attend the Royal Hospital for Children for several appointments and investigations. These include:

  • CT Scan
  • Cardiac Assessment
  • Cardiopulmonary Test
  • Chest Wall School

Chest Wall School is a group education session for patients and their families to attend in preparation for coming in for chest wall surgery.

Informal talks are provided by the Surgeons, Pain Team, Physiotherapy Team and Tissue Viability Nurse. A previous patient and their family will also be invited along to share their experience and answer any questions. An opportunity to visit our surgical ward, 3B is also offered with the chance to ask one of the ward staff nurses any questions you may have regarding your admission.

This has been a new development for 2019 and has been met with very positive feedback in helping patients and their families prepare for surgery and the recovery process.
